Cathy Kingham: Young Carers Locality Co-ordinator for Mid-Devon

“My role is to co-ordinate and expand Young Carers’ services locally in Mid-Devon and to undertake assessments with families, following a referral. Referrals can be made by professionals, or by the family themselves. I am also responsible for managing the teams, assisting with fundraising activities, raising awareness of Young Carers issues at meetings and ensuring that Young Carers’ needs are integral to strategic plans which incorporate children and young people, seeking out Young Carers who are unidentified and unsupported. “

Rachel Hartland: Young Carers Project Worker

“I am based at Unite in Tiverton and my role is to organise respite activities such as club nights and trips, and to attend them to assist Young Carers whilst they are having fun. I have two assistant project workers who can help to run club nights and trips, and Volunteers help us with activities. I also raise awareness of the project and the issues around Young Carers.”

Carole Bond and Lara Pope: Service and Development Managers

“We recruit, train, and support volunteers to work one-to-one as mentor befrienders with our Young Carers.  We take care to match each Young Carer who would like a mentor with the best volunteer, taking into account interests, individual needs, and geographical location.  We also recruit and support volunteer drivers for the project as well as volunteers to help at club nites and on trips.”
